After working in Paris as a photographer and producing a feature-length movie, Yan Nascimbene started illustration in 1986. With 50 books and over 300 book covers to his credit, Yan is the recipient of many awards, including the Society of Illustrators' Silver Medal and the Bologna Book Fair Graphic Award which he won twice. Half-French, half-Italian, Yan and Joan, his half Mexican wife, adopted their daughter, Noémie Naoual, in Morocco. Their son Amanzio was born the following year in California. Yan has a Nigerian brother and sister and a half-Vietnamese nephew born in Tahiti. Joan and Yan share their time between France, Italy and the United States. They currently reside in San Francisco.
